Writing in ... Uganda

       In the Saturday Monitor Jim Oboth argues that Ugandan literature still cannot capture ideology.
       Many presumably don't really find this a problem -- and I certainly take issue with claims such as Oboth's that:
The author's background is crucial in guiding readers to where the writer stands in the moral axis of his writing since he aims at exploring fundamental truth.
       My preference is always to leave an author's background far in the background: the work -- and whatever its moral axis -- should stand (largely) on its own.
