A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers-author Xiaolu Guo weighs in on the popular question of whether or not Mo Yan has been coöpted by/is too deferential to the Chinese powers that be, in Great art behind an iron curtain: Are all Chinese novelists 'state writers'.
She also brings in Serve the People !-author Yan Lianke, and mentions his novel Shou Huo -- bizarrely referring to it by its Chinese title, rather than that of the English translation, Lenin's Kisses.
