Literary festival fuss

       Last year Salman Rushdie was invited to the Jaipur Literature Festival, but that didn't work out too well; this year the festival didn't seem to have invited anyone likely to get anywhere near as much a rise out of anyone (the Dalai Lama ?), and yet .....
       Yes, as for example Urvashi Dev Rawal reports in the Hindustan Times, Trouble brews over Jaipur literature fest guest list, as:
The RSS and BJP opposed the participation of seven Pakistani authors in the five-day festival that begins on January 24. Muslim clerics, meanwhile, demanded that the four authors who read from Salman Rushdie's controversial book Satanic Verses last year be banned from the event.
       The latter demand, in particular, looks like little more than a particularly poorly thought-out attempt to milk the success of last year's anti-Rushdie sentiment for one more season: as Jason Burke notes in his report in The Guardian, Drop Salman Rushdie supporters, Jaipur literary festival told:
Organisers said they were confused by the demands. Only one of the four authors who read parts of the Satanic Verses last year has been invited this year
