Best Translated Book Award finalists

       The Best Translated Book Award finalists have been announced, for both the fiction and the poetry categories.
       I am one of the judges for the fiction prize, and the ten finalists are:

• I Am a Japanese Writer by Dany Laferrière
• In Red by Magdalena Tulli
• Kafka's Leopards by Moacyr Scliar
• Kornél Esti by Kosztolányi Dezső
• Lightning by Jean Echenoz
• Never Any End to Paris by Enrique Vila-Matas
• New Finnish Grammar by Diego Marani
• Scars by by Juan José Saer
• Stone Upon Stone by Wiesław Myśliwski
• Upstaged by Jacques Jouet

       A solid list, I think (well, eight of my ten favored titles made the cut, so, yes, I'm fairly well pleased with it), and I look forward to the final deliberations.
       The winners will be announced on Friday, 4 May at 18:00, at McNally Jackson Books in New York.
