The Irrawaddy Literary Festival opened yesterday -- though with a last-minute change of venue as, as Douglas Long reports in the Myanmar Times, Literary festival venue changed after ministry cancels permission to use pagoda. So, as Zarni Mann reports in The Irrawaddy, Denied Pagoda Venue, Literary Festival Kicks Off at Mandalay Hotel. And it wasn't a damper for some: as reported in Eleven, World's literary titans gather in Mandalay.

Meanwhile, at Foreign Policy Catherine A. Traywick finds Geroge Orwell is making a comeback in Burma, and looks at: 'Why the country George Orwell once skewered is finally embracing its non-native son', in Big Brother's Burmese Comeback. Some of this isn't exactly fresh news -- see my mention of thew new embrace of Burmese Days from last November -- but it's good to see more coverage.
